The Amazon Sword has been a fixture of freshwater tanks for decades. Its broad, lance-shaped leaves grow large enough to create a real focal point, giving a tank a lush, natural feel almost as soon as it's planted.
Native to the Amazon River basin in South America, this plant does best rooted in a nutrient-rich substrate under moderate to high lighting. Regular fertilization helps it along, and it benefits from CO2 supplementation, though it can get by without it in a well-maintained tank.
Whether you're building a South American biotope or just want a large background plant that anchors the rest of the layout, the Amazon Sword fills out a tank reliably over time.
