Anubias Barteri has been a fixture of the freshwater hobby for decades. Its thick, glossy, dark green, heart-shaped leaves and near-indestructible nature make it fit just about anywhere, from beginner setups to high-end planted tanks.
Unlike most aquatic plants, Anubias Barteri grows from a rhizome and should never be buried in substrate. Instead, it does best attached to driftwood, rocks, or other hardscape, where its roots grip and anchor naturally over time. It tolerates a wide range of water conditions, needs no CO2 injection, and grows fine under low to moderate light, which makes it one of the more forgiving plants you can keep.
Its slow, steady growth means it stays tidy with minimal maintenance, and its thick, waxy leaves resist algae and most herbivorous fish. Once established, Anubias Barteri is about as close to a permanent fixture as an aquatic plant gets.
