Anubias Nana is one of the hardiest plants available for freshwater tanks, and its compact size and thick, glossy, dark green leaves make it easy to work into almost any layout, from simple beginner setups to detailed aquascapes.
Native to West Africa, this plant grows best attached to driftwood or rocks rather than planted in substrate. It tolerates low to medium light, needs no CO2, and is difficult to kill under normal aquarium conditions, which makes it a solid pick regardless of experience level.
Its slow growth and waxy leaf surface make it naturally resistant to algae, and it gets along with nearly all fish and shrimp. Once settled in, Anubias Nana keeps producing steady, lush growth for years with minimal upkeep.
