Bucephalandra is prized among aquascapers for its color-shifting leaves. Its broad, rounded foliage carries an iridescent sheen that shifts between deep green, blue, and purple depending on the angle and intensity of the light.

Native to Borneo, Bucephalandra grows naturally on rocks and driftwood along fast-moving streams. It does best attached to hardscape rather than planted in substrate, and it needs no CO2, making it a low-maintenance option among the more unusual plants in the hobby.

Its slow, compact growth suits foreground and midground placement, and it pairs well with mosses, Anubias, and other rhizome plants. Once established, Bucephalandra is tough to kill and keeps producing its distinctive iridescent growth for years.
