Cabomba's fine, fan-shaped whorls of feathery green leaves give it a delicate, almost lace-like texture that reads very differently from broader-leafed plants nearby, a useful contrast tool in a mixed planting.
It grows quickly and adapts to a range of conditions, which is why it turns up in both beginner and intermediate tanks. The dense foliage gives fry, shy fish, and shrimp somewhere to hide, and it's best kept in the background where it has room to reach full height.

Expect some fine leaf debris and mild cloudiness after planting or trimming — this settles quickly. Handle stems by the lower, thicker portion rather than the delicate whorls, and pinch and replant tops periodically as lower stems can thin out over time.
