Calathea gets the common name Prayer Plant from the way its leaves fold upward in the evening and open again with daylight. The foliage is heavily patterned, combining dark green, silver, cream, pink, or deep purple in designs that vary quite a bit from one variety to the next — no two leaves look identical.
These plants need consistent moisture and indirect light, and do well in the humid air near an aquarium or terrarium, which suits keepers who already maintain that kind of environment. They're less forgiving than some houseplants and will show stress quickly if allowed to dry out. Depending on availability, this listing may include Orbifolia, Medallion, Ornata, or Lancifolia varieties.
