Ceramic breeding caves give cave-spawning fish the enclosed site they need to breed successfully. Species like bristlenose and other plecos, apistogrammas, kribensis, shell dwellers, and various cichlids are obligate cave spawners and will rarely spawn at all without one.
Made from unglazed, food-grade ceramic, these caves are pH neutral and porous enough for beneficial bacteria to colonize the surface, while providing the dark, secure retreat that triggers natural spawning behavior. They also double as general hides for shy or stressed fish, which can help calm territorial aggression in a community tank. Rinse before first use — no chemical treatment is needed.

Rinse before first use to remove any kiln dust — no soaking or chemical treatment needed. Size the cave to your target species: openings too large won't feel secure to shy or breeding fish, too small will exclude larger species like bristlenose plecos.
