Java Fern is a long-time favorite in the freshwater hobby, and for good reason: it tolerates a wide range of conditions and asks very little from the keeper. Its long, leathery, dark green leaves carry distinctive veining that gives an aquarium a natural, layered look without any fuss.

Native to Southeast Asia, Java Fern does best attached to driftwood or rocks rather than buried in substrate. Low to medium light suits it fine, and no CO2 injection is needed, which is why it turns up in beginner tanks and advanced aquascapes alike.

Whether you're stocking a simple community tank or fleshing out a detailed layout, Java Fern grows steadily and holds up well over the long haul, making it one of the more dependable plants you can add to a tank.
