Lucky Bamboo (Dracaena sanderiana) grows upright, segmented green stems topped with a small tuft of narrow leaves, and despite the name it isn't a bamboo at all. It can be kept in a plain vase of water on a desk, arranged into ornamental shapes, or grown directly in or above an open-top aquarium.

Because it needs no soil, it's about as low commitment as houseplants get just keep the roots submerged and change the water occasionally. Aquarium keepers often grow it with its roots in the tank, where it takes up nitrates from the water while adding some green above the surface. In feng shui practice it's traditionally associated with good fortune.
