Marimo Moss Balls are actually a form of algae, not moss, and they're one of the more unusual organisms you'll find in the aquarium trade. In the wild they grow in just a handful of cold, clear lakes, rolling slowly along the lakebed as gentle currents keep their shape round and even.
In a tank they ask for almost nothing — turn them occasionally so they keep their round shape, and give them a gentle rinse during water changes. They grow at roughly 5mm a year, can live for decades, and are completely safe alongside any fish, shrimp, or invertebrates; shrimp in particular will graze on their surface.
