Monte Carlo is a go-to carpeting plant for aquascapers who want a lush foreground without the difficulty some carpet plants demand. Its tiny, bright green, round leaves form a dense mat that reads like a natural meadow once it fills in.
Native to Argentina, Monte Carlo carpets more easily than many alternatives, tolerating a wider range of light and CO2 levels. It spreads through runners, gradually filling the foreground with a thick, even carpet of green under aquarium lighting.
Its compact, low-growing habit makes it ideal for the foreground, and it provides a natural habitat for shrimp and small fish. Once established, Monte Carlo gives an aquascape a clean, finished look with relatively little maintenance.
