Cholla Wood is the hollow, dried skeleton of the cholla cactus, and its open, tube-like structure riddled with small holes, roughly 4–6cm in diameter gives shrimp a place to graze, explore, and hide. As it softens underwater, it develops a biofilm coating that shrimp will pick at continuously.
It also releases mild tannins that suit soft-water species, and being a consumable material, it will gradually break down over several months rather than lasting indefinitely. That makes it a natural, if temporary, addition best suited to shrimp, dwarf crayfish, and nano fish tanks.
