Aloe Vera is a succulent with thick, fleshy, serrated leaves that store water and contain the soothing gel it's been used for medicinally for centuries. The rosette shape grows upright and slightly sculptural, and offsets, or "pups," often form at the base as the plant matures.
It's about as low-maintenance as houseplants get — water it every few weeks once the soil has dried out completely, give it bright light and well-draining soil, and otherwise leave it alone. It does well on windowsills, countertops, or any sunny spot with decent airflow.
