Red Root Floater (Phyllanthus Fluitans)

Red Root Floater's small, rounded leaves shift color with light intensity staying green under lower light and turning a deep crimson-red once light levels climb. The trailing red roots hang down into the water column, giving shrimp, fry, and shy fish somewhere to hide.

It grows quickly and pulls excess nutrients from the water efficiently, so regular thinning is part of keeping it in check. Because its color depends on overhead light, it does particularly well in open-top tanks and paludariums where nothing blocks the light from above.
